Imagine waking to find a leak coming from under your kitchen sink. You can’t get hold of any local plumbers to repair it quickly. The leak is getting worse and your kitchen floor is slowly becoming submerged. You’re concerned about the flooding reaching other parts of your home and the damage this will cause to the floors and carpets. Finally, after several hours, a plumber you called earlier is able to come around to fix the leak.

But in the meantime, several hundred, if not thousands, of pounds of damage has been caused to your home.

Home Emergency cover offers instant help

Imagine now if you had Home Emergency cover as part of your home insurance. You would have been able to call a 24-hour emergency helpline and get the details of a professional plumber, who was able to come around quickly to fix the leak. This limited the damage and meant you didn’t need to have to deal with the hassle of major repairs. It also meant you didn’t need to make a claim on your home insurance policy, protecting your no-claims bonus and your excess.

This is why Home Emergency cover is so useful. It does what it says on the tin: should you be unfortunate enough to have an emergency at your home which could result in a potentially large amount of damage, it will provide you with emergency help from a reputable contractor.

What does it give you?

There are many Home Emergency products available with varying levels of cover. The policy covers the cost of the call-out charge along with any labour or parts required to rectify the problem. This includes burst pipes, sudden leakages, failure of the domestic water supply or heating, blockage of sewage pipes, removal of pests, wasps and mice. The emergency might seem small, but without addressing it, significant damage can be caused.

Should you need help, you will have access to a 24-hour helpline which you can call to get advice and check if your claim is covered. If so, the claims handler will get straight to work and arrange for a reputable contractor to get to your property to carry out the emergency repairs, even if they are of a temporary nature, to reduce the immediate risk.

We know your time is precious and sometimes finding someone who is available to complete the works in an emergency is not always easy to find. By leaving it to your claims handler, who has access to a network of hundreds of workers who are readily available, you’ll save time and avoid the stress.

It’s worth noting that Home Emergency cover is only for the emergency repair and if there are any subsequent repairs needed, such as to water-damaged flooring, then we will speak to your insurer for you.
